Spring 2019 - Issue 7
What’s on Our Agenda
The presidents, provosts, and chief financial officers of TBC’s member institutions gathered earlier this spring for a thoughtful and thought-provoking conversation about the challenges and opportunities facing all of our institutions at this interesting and challenging time in the history of higher education. We were delighted to have had a panel discussion of Presidents Larry Bacow of Harvard, Robert Brown of Boston University, and Roger Brown of Berklee College of Music. The panel was moderated by Bridget Terry Long, Dean of the Faculty of Education and Saris Professor of Education and Economics at Harvard.
Among other topics, the group discussed bending the cost curve, changing demographics, responding to students’ expectations, restoring public trust in higher education and admissions, and the role of collaboration.
At the conclusion, we encouraged attendees to reflect on the conversations and provide any thoughts, comments, suggestions, and, importantly, any opportunities for TBC to further support the advancement of higher education. We are already developing a couple of follow up opportunities.
Based on the enthusiastic feedback we’ve received from attendees, we are considering making this forum an annual event. We’ll provide updates on this and other events in future issues.
Wishing you a happy spring,
Chair, The Boston Consortium for Higher Education
CFO, SVP of Administration and Finance, Berklee College of Music
